To begin this project, I had to brainstorm two different types of breakfast food that would be creative and interesting to make out of clay. I chose to look further into making either donuts or pancakes topped with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I then found five pictures of each of these ideas.
After I found the five pictures of each type of breakfast food, I then sketched each of them. I added color to get a better idea what they might look like after painted. I chose to make the pancakes for my final project. Since they are not just regular pancakes, I felt like it would be a challenge and interesting to see how they turned out.
I take risks. I wasn't so sure how this project would turn out. I knew making pancakes would be easy because all I had to do was roll out the clay and cut out uneven, imperfect circles. However, I was unsure how the syrup and strawberries would turn out. Even though I was unsure if they would turn out good or not, I still continued to make them because I wanted to challenge myself. I found that working with clay was difficult for me. It took me several tries before I could get the shape of the clay to look like actual strawberries. It was also very difficult to make a plate out of clay. In my opinion, the edges are not constructed well and the plate is not a perfect circle. Altogether though, I believe I succeeded well in creating the pancakes to look realistic. We collaborate. Throughout this whole project, my table group collaborated and gave constructive criticism. Someone in my table group inspired me by giving me the idea to add texture to the strawberries with a spiky piece of plastic. This was a very helpful idea that made my strawberries look much more realistic and feel more realistic. I developed my art making skills. With this project, I learned how to sculpt clay to look more neat and realistic. I also learned how to add shadows and highlights in the colors on my syrup, pancakes, and strawberries so that they had more value and looked more realistic. In every single project that we have done before this one, we made sure value was added. With this project we continued that but instead of using colored pencils or chalk pastels, we used paint and showed value through that medium.
