I have never created a mixed media project before this. So, I was really excited and interested in creating a project that would include multiple types of media. However, I was not exactly sure what I wanted to do. I researched some and decided that I would go with more of a simple or questionable theme. I developed my art making skills. I learned new skills in this project, including using a gel medium and gesso to create more of a worn, or used, type of look. I love painting so I knew I wanted to use a background for this project that included paint. I painted a simple landscape with a sunset sky, including blues, pinks, and purples. Painting this background also gave me practice with blending paints. I take risks. I did not know how using the yarn for the flower petals would turn out. I was surprised and pleased with how well it did turn out. I believe that using the yarn gives the painting some texture and creates somewhat of a focal point for the piece. Also, I was afraid to paint gesso all over my painting. Before this project, I had never worked with gesso so I was not exactly sure how it would turn out. I was afraid it would cover writing and you wouldn't be able to read the words. I was afraid it would make my background look dull. However, I really like how it turned out. It gives the painting an antique look which I like. I create original work. I researched some for this project and found some inspiration and ideas that I incorporated into it. I saw the ideas to use yarn as the flower petals. I wanted to incorporate some text so I used a article about nature for the butterflies.
